Greenfield approach
A new implementation that starts from scratch. While the system may be new, you can migrate data from the old system or run both systems in parallel during the transition.
Brownfield approach
Also known as system conversion, this approach involves transferring your current processes to a new tech platform.
Hybrid approach
This approach allows you to selectively transition some data and bring forward customizations that are important to your business.

- Agile Project Prepare Phase
SAP Activate is comprised of six project phases.
Let’s briefly look at each phase next:
1.Discover phase
During this phase, the project team will research and build knowledge about the solution capabilities available with SAP S/4HANA. The goals of this phase include understanding the business benefits of the solution, determining the best strategy for implementation, and defining the target architecture. In this phase, your business prepares the business case for implementing SAP S/4HANA.
2.Prepare phase
Planning and preparation for the project occur during this phase. The goals of the phase include securing executive sponsorship, assigning project team members, establishing governance and tracking standards, and defining roles and responsibilities.
3.Explore phase
Fit-gap analysis takes place in the explore phase, when business users familiarize themselves with SAP Best Practices to identify whether they fit the business requirements. From this analysis, design activities are undertaken to bridge the identified gaps. Additional activities in this phase include master data load preparation.
4.Realize phase
The solution is incrementally built, tested, and validated using agile methodologies. Master data is loaded in this phase and ongoing operations are planned.
5.Deploy phase
End-user training is finalized, the production environment is established, and cutover activities take place during this phase. Business readiness is assessed and confirmed, and the system goes live.
6.Run phase
The system is fully operational, and optimization continues through continuous improvement, which is based upon the monitoring standards established in earlier phases.
- SAP Fiori is the common design paradigm for SAP. The SAP Fiori design language affects the appearance of everything in SAP, not just the interface of the new SAP S/4HANA system.
- To create apps in SAP Fiori, use the SAPUI5 framework. This framework is in turn based on the open-source framework OpenUI5, with some additional SAP-specific tools. The most important development tools for working with SAPUI5 include HTML5, CCS3, jQuery, and JavaScript.
